St. Anne, Radcliffe-on-Trent and Bingham

"A Community Rooted in Faith and History"

St Anne’s Church, located in the heart of Radcliffe-on-Trent, serves not only the local community but also the market town of Bingham and its surrounding villages. With a rich history dating back to the 1930s, St Anne’s is a place of worship, fellowship, and service, dedicated to welcoming all and proclaiming the Good News of Christ.

A Historical Journey

  • Early Beginnings (1938)
Following the First World War, Radcliffe-on-Trent grew into a dormitory suburb of Nottingham, attracting new settlers, including many Catholics. To meet their spiritual needs, Fr. Woodbridge of West Bridgford opened a Mass Centre in ‘The Lodge’ at Wharfe End in 1938.

  • The English Martyrs Chapel (1940)
In 1940, a corrugated-iron building on Shelford Road was purchased and dedicated to The English Martyrs. Initially, Sunday Mass was celebrated monthly, increasing to weekly in 1948 as the Catholic community grew.

  • Opening of St Anne’s Church (1962)
On 26th July 1962, the current church building was opened, blessed, and dedicated to St Anne. Originally intended to serve as a parish hall until a larger church was built, it has remained the main place of worship for the community. Over the years, it has been altered and extended to better serve its congregation.

  • Modern Developments

    • 1982: Additions included catering facilities, a meeting room, and extra seating.

    • 1990s: The presbytery was extended, adding an office, a reception room, and a new sacristy.

    • 2002: On the 40th anniversary of its dedication, the church was consecrated by Bishop McMahon.

Priests Who Served St Anne's Church

  • 1977 – 1995: Fr. D. Daly

  • 2022 – Present : Fr. J. Martin
