Returning Catholics
"Welcome Home to the Parish of the Annunciation!"
If you’ve been away from the Catholic Church for a while, we want you to know that you are warmly welcomed back. No matter how long you’ve been away or the reasons that kept you apart, God’s love for you has never wavered, and neither has our community’s welcome. Returning to the Church is a personal journey, and we are here to support you with open arms, understanding, and encouragement.
Why Return to the Catholic Faith?
People return to the Catholic Church for many different reasons. You may feel a longing for spiritual peace, a renewed interest in faith, or a desire for a deeper connection with God. Whatever brings you here, you are taking a meaningful step by exploring this journey. The Church offers comfort, guidance, and community—a place to find hope, healing, and purpose in a world that often feels uncertain.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Steps to Return to the Church
If you’re considering returning to the Catholic Church, here are some helpful steps to guide you:
1. Reflect and Pray
Take some time for quiet reflection and prayer. Returning to the Church is a journey of the heart and soul, and God will guide you as you take each step.
2. Reconnect with the Sacraments
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a beautiful way to begin your journey back. Confession allows you to experience God’s forgiveness and grace, providing a fresh start and a sense of peace. Our priests are compassionate and understanding, ready to walk with you on this path.
3. Join Us for Mass
Attending Mass is an excellent way to re-engage with the faith. Mass is the heart of Catholic worship, where we gather to praise God, hear His Word, and receive the Eucharist. Whether you attend regularly or simply want to observe, we welcome you to join us.
4. Speak with Our Team
We understand that returning to the Church can come with questions or concerns. Fr. John Martin and our pastoral team are available to listen, answer questions, and offer guidance. Whether it’s a one-on-one meeting or a simple conversation over coffee, we are here to help.
5. Consider Joining a Faith Formation Group
Many returning Catholics find it helpful to join a small faith-sharing group, Bible study, or discussion group. These gatherings offer a chance to meet others, grow in understanding, and feel supported in your faith journey.
-
What if one parent isn’t Catholic? We warmly welcome families from all backgrounds. At least one parent should be committed to raising the child in the Catholic faith.
-
How many godparents can we choose? The Church requires at least one Godparent but it is common to have two – one male and one female. Godparents must be practicing Catholics, confirmed and at least 16 years old. Additional friends or family members who are baptized Christians can act as honorary godparents or "witnesses".
-
Is there a cost for Baptism? There is no fee for receiving Baptism. It is normal for the priest to be offered a donation (“stipend”) and our Parish asks for a contribution towards expenses. However, no-one will be prevented from receiving Baptism for financial reasons.
