Baptism

"A New Beginning in Faith, A Journey with Christ."

Welcome to the Sacrament of Baptism—where faith begins and God’s love is celebrated! Baptism is more than a ceremony; it’s a beautiful encounter with God’s grace that marks the start of a lifelong journey of faith, hope, and love.

What is Baptism?

Baptism is God’s invitation to become a part of His family. It is a sacred rite instituted by Jesus that signifies spiritual rebirth and welcomes us into the Catholic Church. Through the simple yet profound act of pouring water and invoking the Holy Trinity, we are washed clean of sin, reborn as children of God, and embraced by our faith community.

Who Can Be Baptized?

Whether you're a parent wishing to bring your child into the Church or an adult seeking a new beginning in faith, we are here to support you on this sacred journey. Baptism is open to:

  • Infants

  • Older children ages 7 to 13

  • Adults

Preparing for Baptism: A Journey Together

At The Parish of The Annunciation, Rushcliffe, we walk with you through every step. Our Baptism preparation program is designed to ensure that you, your family, and godparents fully understand the beauty and responsibility of Baptism.

“Godparents are like angels without wings, guiding and encouraging us throughout our spiritual journey.”

Celebrating Baptism: Scheduling Your Special Day

Baptisms are celebrated with joy and reverence. Once you’ve completed the preparation program, reach out to our Parish office to schedule this memorable occasion. Together, we’ll make it a day of love, family, and faith.

  • What if one parent isn’t Catholic?
We warmly welcome families from all backgrounds. At least one parent should be committed to raising the child in the Catholic faith.
  • How many godparents can we choose?
The Church requires at least one Godparent but it is common to have two – one male and one female. Godparents must be practicing Catholics, confirmed and at least 16 years old. Additional friends or family members who are baptized Christians can act as honorary godparents or "witnesses".
  • Is there a cost for Baptism?
There is no fee for receiving Baptism. It is normal for the priest to be offered a donation (“stipend”) and our Parish asks for a contribution towards expenses. However, no-one will be prevented from receiving Baptism for financial reasons.
