Go Make Disciples - Diocesan Five-Year Mission Plan w Visitation Opening Liturgy - Corpus Christi Church, Clifton on Thursday 1st October 7pm

You are warmly invited to join us at Corpus Christi Church, Clifton for the opening of the Visitation*.  Adoration begins at 7.00pm, with Bishop Patrick offering three short reflections to help us spend time in prayer and reflection before the Blessed Sacrament. The evening will conclude with Benediction, followed by a short address from Bishop Patrick. CAFOD’s Family Fast Day is coming up on Friday 2 October. This Harvest, we’re inviting parishes to help children have the food and safe water they need to learn.

Join the Dominican Sisters of Saint Joseph, on Friday 9th October, for an introductory session to discover the vocation of the catechist and how to use the Catechism as a tool in passing on the faith to others.  Meet after the 6.10pm Mass in the Frassati Centre, LE1 6HW.  The evening will include a mixture of talks and workshops, and we will finish with Compline (night prayer).  Some light food will be provided, and everything will conclude by 9pm.  There is no cost to attend, but registration is essential, at: Opening the Treasure Trove: Using the Catechism for Catechesis  More information is available atan introductory session to discover the vocation of the catechist and how we can use the Catechism as a tool in our mission of passing on the faith to others.

The National Eucharistic Congress and Procession – Adoremus will take place in London on Saturday 10th October. Adoremus is a national celebration of the Eucharist, bringing together Catholics from across England and Wales for prayer, worship, catechesis, and public witness. There are still places available for parishioners to join the day, including coach travel from Clifton, departing at 6.45am and returning at approximately 9.30pm, departure from Westminster Cathedral at around 6pm.

The subsidised cost is £15 per person. Food and drinks are not included, but you are welcome to bring your own refreshments or purchase something during the day. There is no age restriction, so everyone is welcome to take part. Anyone under 18 will simply need to be accompanied by a responsible adult. Please also note that the pilgrimage route is approximately two miles, so participants should be comfortable walking this distance. What do our emotions have to do with holiness? Are our feelings something to control, overcome, or simply accept? Join the Dominican Sisters of Saint Joseph for a day exploring the Thomistic understanding of the passions; the emotions and movements of our human nature. The study day is open to any young adults (20s & 30s), including those looking to deepen their faith or new to the Catholic tradition. The Diocese is inviting all Catechists to a day at Holy Trinity Newark on Saturday 17th October entitled: Reimagining Catechesis.  As a catechist would you love to see more families engaged with parish life and growing in faith?  That at the end of sacramental programmes fewer people would ‘disappear’.  This day led by the team from GIFT (Growing In Faith Together) will share how this is happening in their parishes and it can happen in yours too.  For more information see the poster in church or visit dioceseofnottingham.uk/events


 

Week of Guided Prayer for those affected directly or indirectly by abuse in the Church is being offered by the Jesuits between Sunday 18th and Friday 23rd October.

ADVENTure 2026, a weekend at The Briars, Crich, for young people in school years 10-13 as Advent begins, from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th November. The diocesan youth service opens the centre for prayer, honest conversation, Mass, reconciliation and an Advent party! Young people can come alone or with a friend (plenty do), and first-timers are especially welcome. The cost is £50, covering accommodation, meals and the whole weekend. Year 6 Parents: Don't Miss the Secondary School Application Deadline.   

If your child was born between 1st September 2015 and 31st August 2016 he or she will be starting Year 7 in September 2027. You must apply for a secondary school place through your home Local Authority by Sunday 31st October. If you would like your child to be considered for a Catholic school under a Catholic faith admission criterion, there is an additional step:

✅ Complete the school’s Supplementary Information Form (SIF).

✅ Send the completed SIF directly to the school.

✅ Send the required supporting evidence (for example, a copy of your child's Baptism certificate) directly to the school.

The Supplementary Information Form and supporting evidence must be sent to the school, not to the Local Authority. The Local Authority application and the school's Supplementary Information Form are separate processes. Both must be completed by the deadline if you wish your child to be considered under the school's faith-based admissions criteria. If the school does not receive the Supplementary Information Form and supporting evidence by the deadline, your child may be placed in a lower admissions category, which could affect their chance of securing a place. If you do not have a copy of your child's Baptism certificate, contact the parish where your child was baptised as soon as possible to request a replacement.

During the Week of Prayer for Palestine and Israel, beginning on Sunday 20th September, we are invited to hold the people of the Holy Land, especially its children, in prayer and solidarity, and to let our prayer move us towards action.

St Colette's Pregnancy Support Centre

The Government’s Great British Summer Savings Scheme takes place between 25th June and 1st September, with a temporary reduction on VAT from 20% to 5% on children's meals in restaurants, children and family tickets to cinemas, theatres, concerts, exhibitions and a wide range of other attractions.  In addition, there is to be free bus travel during August for children aged 5 to 15 in England.  Full details can be found at: https://summersavings.gov.uk
